Let’s have an honest chat; a gentle one, I promise🙂
Over the years I’ve heard a lot of reasons why people put off exercise. And I get it. Life is busy. Budgets are stretched. Starting something new can feel intimidating.
Every body and every circumstance is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all here. So today I want to look at four of the most common reasons with kindness, and hopefully a little inspiration.
“I Don’t Have the Time”
Here’s the wonderful truth: even 10 minutes a day counts. Research confirms that short bursts of movement add up to real health benefits. A little gentle cardio, a quick Mobility session from the library; it all matters. And here’s a thought I find motivating: the minutes we give our health today tend to pay us back with interest – in energy, in ease of movement, in simply feeling more like ourselves. When you think about the long lasting benefits, ten minutes today is a bargain.
“I’m Not Fit Enough to Start”
Fitness isn’t about bulging muscles or a beach body; it’s about feeling stronger and moving easier, starting exactly where you are. And here’s the lovely thing: even a total beginner who’s never done anything like this before can start with my Mobility class. Mobility is essentially laying the groundwork; it prepares your body to take on more once you’re ready. In other words, if you feel you’re not ready, Mobility is where you get ready. From there, you can move on to Level 2 Pilates; there are dozens of classes waiting in the library. When you’re feeling stronger still, Level 3 BodySculpt is your next step. And the nicest part? There’s no deadline and no schedule to meet; you proceed when you’re ready. And I’m here to help, every step of the way. If you’d like a hand getting launched, I’d be delighted to set up a free online one-on-one with you.
“I’m Not Disciplined Enough”
Here’s a little secret: discipline is overrated. What actually works is making exercise so easy to start that you barely need willpower at all. My favourite trick? Attach bite-sized activities to things you’re already doing. If you walk your dog every morning, do a 10-minute Mobility class right before you clip on the leash. Or try a short Yoga session after your nightly skincare routine. New habits are far easier to build on top of existing habits; in fact, experts at the Cleveland Clinic point out that attaching a new habit to one you already do consistently helps it become automatic faster. The routine you already have becomes the reminder, so you don’t have to rely on motivation showing up. Before long, it’s just what you do.
“It’s Too Expensive”
From groceries to gas to Netflix to travel, everything is getting so expensive. But here’s some happy math: a Silver membership works out to less than 84 cents a day, about a quarter of the cost of one small latte. And our price freeze continues; Charles and I have kept prices steady since 2020, and we have no intention of raising them. Because we believe your fitness shouldn’t be a luxury item.
You’ve Got This
Whatever has been holding you back, please know this: you don’t need more time, more experience or more money than you have right now, and you certainly don’t need a different body. The one you have is the perfect place to start. Ten minutes, one class, one small step; that’s how everyone begins. I’ll be right there with you.
